On Sunday, three of us who consist of P.B.I.L, Boss Darling and I watched Happy Feet before dinner. I know I know, Happy Feet is such an “old” movie but I didn’t get to watch it till that day.

Set in an Antarctic emperor penguin colony, the Happy Feet is about every penguin must sing a unique song, which they called the “heart song” in order to attract a soul mate. This is based in fact, since emperor couples court each other and recognize one another by their unique calls. One particular couple, Norma Jean (Nicole Kidman) and Memphis, (Hugh Jackman) paired up and produce an egg. The egg is left in Memphis’ care while Norma Jean and the other females left to fish for several weeks. While the males are struggling through the harsh winter, Memphis accidentally dropped the egg, briefly exposing it to the freezing Antarctic temperatures. The main character chick, Mumble (voiced by E.G. Daily as a chick and Elijah Wood as an adult) was born and seemed to be tone deaf and nearly incapable of singing. However, Mumble has an astute talent for tap dancing

This ability is frowned upon by the colony’s elders, who do not tolerate deviance of any kind. As a result, Mumble is ostracized throughout his childhood, with only his parents and his friend Gloria to turn to for help. Mumble then grows to a young adult, still half-covered in fluffy down. Through a series of mishaps, Mumble finds himself far from his home and within the carefree colony of the adélies – penguins small in stature, but fiercely loyal to those they call friends. He quickly befriends a small group of bachelors who call themselves the amigos – Ramón (Robin Williams), the smallest of them, is the unofficial “leader” of sorts. The amigos quickly embrace Mumble’s dance moves and assimilate him into their misfit group.

Mumble’s joy at finding acceptance for his difference is cut short when strange “alien discoveries” occur where a long-frozen human excavator tumbles out from a glacier, and Mumble is intrigued. Driven by curiosity of the excavator, he sets out to find answers. Tracking his way back to Emperor Land, Mumble inadvertently causes most of the colony to begin dancing while trying to impress Gloria. Noah, the elder, sees the lack of fish as punishment from the Great ‘Guin regarding Mumble’s dancing. He then exiles Mumble from the colony, but Mumble vows to Noah that he will find the real cause of the lack of fishes and travels across vast territories with his friends. By happenstance, they finally come face to face with a legion of huge trawlers, all laden with fish caught around the Antarctic coast. Mumble follows after them fearlessly, leaving his friends behind to preserve his legacy.

Mumble ends up in a penguin exhibit at a marine park, and fervently tries to communicate with the “aliens” (where by know you would realise is us, the humans) who surround him. When his pleas fail, Mumble nearly succumbs to madness after months of confinement in the sterile glass prison. When a child taps on the glass wall one day, Mumble is woken from his stupor and dances in response, whereupon the astounded humans finally pay attention. He is released to the sea with a tracking device, and leads the “aliens” to his native colony and then convinces them about the “aliens”. He fulfils his mission and the humans ban Antarctic Fishing to preserve all of these “dancing penguins”.

Happy Feet is indeed a good movie although I find some parts a bit hard to understand and need you to sit down and really think before you finally understand it. Overall, it is worth watching.

The next movie we (P.I.L, Boss Darling and I) watched was Rocky Balboa played by Sylvester Stallone. Halfway of the movie, only P.F.I.L, Boss Darling and I were watching it. hehe I expected more from the Rocky and I was disappointed that he did not win the match although there is no Knock Out at all… Disappointment!

Rocky Balboa is about Rocky is now retired and opens an Italian restaurant on his wife, Adrian’s honour by naming it after her. He charms his patrons with stories of his past fights. Rocky visits his late wife’s grave almost daily, and embarks on a yearly tour of Philadelphia landmarks that held importance to him and Adrian. His brother-in-law Paulie (Burt Young) joins him on this tour, but does so at great personal pain because he feels that he did not treat Adrian well during her life. Rocky counters this claim by reminding Paulie that Adrian loved him as well.

Rocky’s son, Robert Jr. (Milo Ventimiglia), who is the opposite of Rocky, is a buttoned-down, corporate-minded businessman who is trying to carve out his own place in a very different world. Rocky’s relationship with Robert is tumultuous because Robert has always had to live under the shadow of his famous father and he even believes that the only reason he was hired for his latest job was because of his last name, Balboa.

During the weekend, both Boss Darling and I had movie night marathon. Firstly, on Saturday night after having our dinner, we both watched 300 with P.I.L.

The movie 300 is about the Spartan King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) and the 300 Spartans (soldiers of Spartan) fight to the last man against Persian King Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro) and his army of more than one million soldiers, while in Sparta, Queen Gorgo (Lena Headey) attempts to rally support for her husband. In this movie, you see a Sméagol (from The Lord of the Rings) like character called Ephialtes, a hunchbacked Spartan whose parents had fled in order to save him from the customary infanticide, approached King Leonidas to request to redeem his father’s name in battle and also to warn King Leonidas of the secret goat path that the Persians could use to surround them. But Ephialtes was turned down as his inability to properly hold the shield would create a weak spot in the phalanx. Out of anger, Ephialtes went to King Xerxes to help the Persian defeat the Spartans.

In this movie, women are able to droll over at masculine men. Of course, those hamsap men who watches this movie also won’t be disappointed as there are fights scenes and also… hmm just watch and see… hehe Don’t wanna spoil it for you guys… *wink wink* Overall, I was pretty impressed with how the Spartans are able to defeat so many Persians and did not give up even if it cost their life at the end. Although, it does look bit like the Lord of the Ring’s second movie, The Two Towers.

After watching the show, both Boss Darling and I went back to our home. Boss Darling wanted to watch Saw III before sleeping. To be honest, I am not a fan of horror films but I got no choice to watch it because Boss Darling was watching on his computer, which happens to be just beside the bed. Saw III is the third instalment of the Saw horror film series. The main plot of Saw series revolve s around the John Kramer or also known as the Jigsaw Killer, a dying vigilante who kidnaps who kidnaps victims and places them in deadly traps to test them and see if they are deserving of the life they have abused. The victims, almost always taken because they have taken their lives for granted and abused them (lying, conning, drug-dealing, etc.), are usually linked to each other in one way or another.

In Saw III, it involved John’s apprentice, Amanda trying to carry on John’s legacy while John lying on his death bed in an undisclosed area. While city detectives scramble to locate John (who disappeared in Saw II), Dr. Lynn Denlon and Jeff Reinhart are unaware that they are about to become the latest pawns on his vicious chessboard.

Jeff Rienhard who is the main subject, had become obsessed with vengeance against those involved in the death of his son, Dylan and the trial of the killer and the remained in his furious state for three years. Jeff was kidnapped eventually and forced to play one of Jigsaw’s last game. Jeff was played in the abandoned meat packing factory and would have to escape before the doors closed and lock him inside. As the proceeded through the factory, he realised that there are three more people in their traps in the factory. These victims are involved in his son’s accident and Jeff need to choose whether to save them or let them die. In the end, Jeff faced his final test.

Dr. Lynn Denlon or Lynn for short was kidnapped in order to keep Jigsaw alive under the threat of death. She was forced to operate on John’s brain in order to prevent her own death and had to work under poor conditions. Lynn was constantly fighting and bickering with Amanda, who grew more unstable as the time passes by. Lynn was promised to have her explosive collar removed if John was still alive when Jeff finishes his game successfully.

Although there are a lot of questions unanswered in this movie, I was glad the movie finished. Luckily, I had no nightmares and had a wonderful sleep that night.
